Silk Scrolls for Neasden Temple
Working with the industrious ladies from BAPS National Women’s Forum (UK) from BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, (often known as ‘Neasden Temple’) we've now completed the drawing and batik workshops to make 10 beautiful silk scrolls.
Each scroll had a team of 10 ladies working on it, and once the silk has been steamed and hemmed, the scrolls will be ready for display at the Temple on Sunday 10 March when BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir celebrates the tenth anniversary of its International Women’s Day event. The scrolls will then tour the UK, visiting other temples before returning to Neasden to be displayed at future events.

Rena Amin, Volunteer at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Neaden said:
The notion of creating these artistic stories enables the community to appreciate the cultural heritage that Hindus offer to the UK. We are extremely grateful to Arts Council England for approving the grant and enabling women of all ages to learn a new skill and build their confidence via this creative medium.

Buy Murshidabad Silk from Kinetika!
Our shipment of hand woven silk has finally arrived in the UK all the way from West Bengal! This is the same silk that was used for the Silk River scrolls as well as the new ones for Neasden Temple.
With its ability to hold bright dye colours and its soft but durable texture, Kinetika has now switched to using hand woven Murshidabad silk for the majority of its projects.
It's a really special fabric, with much more character than silk habutai that is often used for silk painting.
Try it for yourself and buy a piece today, lengths from 1m to a whole 12m piece.
But hurry, we only have a limited supply!
How to order: Murshidabad Silk
Proceeds support Kinetika's charitable work and support the weavers in this heritage tradition that is in danger of dying out.

Kinetika artists have been working with students and staff from Royal Opera House Thurrock Trailblazer schools to plan a carnival!
During the day, fun workshops took place on carnival drumming, dance and design. Kinetika’s Artistic Director Ali Pretty and artist Ray Mahabir led the design workshop, and our old friends Kinetika Bloco led the drumming and dance workshops.
With any luck we will see the end result at a local carnival over the summer!

Neil Moore from William Edwards School said: "Opportunities like this are so rare and the day was packed with so much active learning for all of us."
